This 1983 JD 4050 2WD tractor with 3,975 hours sold for a new record auction sale price of $44,000 on a January 14, 2012 farm auction in west-central Iowa.
Values on used 100 horsepower and under tractors are going up.
Proof came in the form of two recent farm auction sales in January 2012. First on a January 14, 2012 farm auction in west-central Iowa, a very nice 1983 model JD 4050 2WD tractor with 3,975 hours sold for $44,000, a new record high auction sale price.
The previous high auction price I had documented for a JD 4050 sold without a loader was $38,000, for a 1988 JD 4050 2WD with 1,527 hours in “like new” condition, sold on a November 28, 2008 farm sale in southeast Iowa.
Another very strong auction price on a used < 100 HP tractor came on a January 28, 2012 farm sale in southeast Virigina, where a 1991 JD 2955 2WD tractor with 7,500 hours sold for $16,000 (no loader). Two years prior in the same southeast Virginia region, a 1990 JD 2955 2WD tractor with 5,626 hours sold for $11,750.
Older, but worth more money. That’s the current reality in the used tractor market, even on smaller under 100 HP models.

In today’s dollars that price would be $99,370. Looks like somebody got a good deal.
