Preparing for the fall with 5 John Deere Corn Harvest Videos

Outside of farmers themselves, it can be difficult to understand the amount of time and energy they spend trying to supply enough produce to feed our ever-expanding population. Prior to last year’s new product launch, the John Deere YouTube page introduced a series of five short videos (less than 3 minutes each) that bring an average man into a farming family’s world for a couple days in the fall.

So, as our nation’s farmers prepare and execute this year’s fall harvest, we thought it would be fun to take a look back at these 5 John Deere corn harvest videos that give an all-access look into one family’s everyday lives as farmers in our nation’s Corn Belt and how they use John Deere equipment and technology to improve their harvesting process.

Unlock the new John Deere Combine

This video opens with a staggering stat; by 2050, the world’s population is expected to exceed 9 billion people. This sets the stage for the farm visitor’s (John) arrival, as he is introduced to the Jensen family, of Ankeny, Iowa who has been John Deere loyalists since the late 1970s. John is told he will be traveling with the family to the field for a day of harvesting.

Bigger Machines

John quickly learns how early farmers wake up, as the family is having breakfast much before sunrise. They then hit the road to get to their machines and prepare for the harvest, as they pull up to a 9870 STS Combine.

More Power. More Capacity.

Johnny Jensen (the father) brings John over to the combine to give him an up-close view of the machine, explaining some features (corn head, 350-bushel grain tank, etc.) and a general overview of how the combine harvests and stores grain.

More Visibility. More Comfort. New Cornheads.

In this clip, Ryan, Johnny’s son, hops inside the combine with John, where he learns an average of 16 hours a day is spent inside the machine during the corn harvest months. John begins to operate the combine, activating the RowSense steering system to increase efficiency and reduce operator fatigue.

Open the doors to more productivity

The video series closes with John giving a brief recap of his visit, as well as a brief look into the future of John Deere machines within the Jensen’s barn.

As the world’s population continues to grow, our nation’s farmers are constantly being tasked to provide more and more produce using new equipment and technology. We hope this video series gave a fun behind the scenes look into a few typical days during the fall corn harvest in our nation’s Corn Belt.
