The John Deere 7980 Self-Propelled Forage Harvester was created for agricultural professionals to improve up-time and productivity out in the field. With its Intelligent HarvestLab™ sensor, wide-body operator station, and DuraLine high-wear parts, it’s hard to argue with the potential benefits of the machine.
Let’s take a look at some of the highlights of the John Deere 7980 Self-Propelled Forage Harvester.
IVLOC™ Transmission
The John Deere 7980 Self-Propelled Forage Harvester has infinitely variable length-of-cut (IVLOC) transmission, which means operators can cut fast and consistently without leaving the cab. It’s powered by a shaft from the cutterhead, and a hydrostatic motor helps control the speed of the feedrolls. The IVLOC is also gear-driven and hydraulically-controlled, giving the forage harvester increased flexibility.
Intelligent HarvestLab Sensor
The HarvestLab sensor of the harvester is designed to detect moisture and provide accurate readings of the crop through a sapphire glass lens. It can also measure sugar, starch, acid detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber, ash, and protein in corn silage.
Self-Propelled Forage Harvest Crop Flow
The John Deere 7980 has self-propelled forage harvest crop flow, meaning the crop accelerator is positioned low in the machine. This results in long, chimney-type transition cones to the sprout. It minimizes wear and power consumption in this location of the machine.
Fuel Efficiency
This harvester has a six-cylinder, after-cooled diesel engine with a self-bleeding system for automatic refueling. The engine also meets emission standards for Tier 3 engines, and it has an automatic low-idle engine feature. This reduces fuel consumption and noise while in use.
DuraLine High-Wear Parts
DuraLine High-Wear parts are included in the John Deere 7980 Self-Propelled Forage Harvester, which allow the machine to chop large amounts of feed per hour. In most forage harvesters, parts need to be replaced more frequently due to extensive machine use. However, these parts last four times longer than standard parts in other machines.
Wide-Body Operator Station
The wide-body operator station of the John Deere 7980 Self-Propelled Forage Harvester ensures that operators are always comfortable on the job. Curved, tinted glass gives operators an unobstructed view inside of the cab, and the front-window sun visor can be lowered to reduce glare.
Dura-Drum™ Cutterhead
The harvester comes with the Dura-Drum cutterhead, which includes the Dura-Drum knife-rotor concept. This multi-knife design is extremely durable and can potentially detect ferrous metal foreign objects that cause damage.
