Maintain Your Machine with These Tractor Storage Tips

November 26, 2019

Whether you’ve finished using your tractor for the season or you’re just putting it in storage for a short amount of time, there are a few tips you can keep in mind as you do it. Proper storage is essential for keeping all of your machines working efficiently for years to come. It can also potentially reduce the amount of maintenance you have to conduct on your equipment over time.

Let’s take a look at some of the tractor storage tips you can implement to ensure that your machine stays in the best shape possible.

  1. Always refer to the instructions in your operator’s manual. This manual will include a step-by-step guide on what to do and how to do it.
  2. Pressure-wash your tractor before you prepare to put it into storage. A pressure washer can make it easier to clean the machinery, compared to a hose and towel.
  3. Lubricate all grease points. With your grease gun, inject grease to keep all of the joints and wear points on your tractor in working order.
  4. Use your air compressor to inflate the tires of the tractor to the proper PSI. With an air nozzle, you can also use the air compressor to clean the tractor’s engine compartment and more.
  5. Put your battery maintainer to use. This device will send a trickle of electricity to the battery, tricking it into thinking it’s in use. This helps keep the battery alive and in working order.
  6. Follow all operating and safety instructions in the operator’s manual as you look to store your tractor. Additional steps you may find in your operator’s manual include: applying paint to areas to prevent rust, using a waterproof cover if the tractor is stored outside, and moving the hydraulic levers back and forth to release pressure.

Keep in mind that you can always contact your local John Deere dealer if you have any questions pertaining to keeping your tractor in working order while it’s in storage.
