To cater to a wide range of customer needs, John Deere has updated and added to its Mower Conditioner lineup for the 2021 Model Year. The company’s Zero Series Mower Conditioners are designed for both commercial and non-commercial hay producers who are looking to better manage tight harvest windows. Zero Series Mower Conditioners can be ordered now, with deliveries starting in January 2021, and will replace all 600, 800, and 900 Series models. Available models include the side-pull S250, S300, and S350 machines, as well as the center-pivot C300, C350, C400, C450, and C500 Mower Conditioners.

Let’s take a look at some of the highlights of these Zero Series Mower Conditioners and how they can help Deere customers out in the field.

Wider Cutting Width

The C500, in particular, has a cut width of five meters. It is 10% wider than the previous model, which allows it to harvest more acres per hour. The C500 also has the same field-proven overshot cross auger design featured on the John Deere 500R Rotary Windrower platforms, improving cut quality while reducing ash content.

Better Weight Distribution

The C400 is lighter and has better weight distribution than its predecessor. Its lightweight design makes it compatible with a wide range of tractors, and its wider conditioning rolls allow for improved crop conditioning.

Quick Change Knife System

All of the Model Year 2021 Mower Conditioners have the Quick Change Knife system. This improves the uptime of the machines by reducing the amount of time required to replace worn or damaged knives by more than 50%. Through this inclusion of this system, customers can use a simple handheld tool to replace a worn or damaged knife in a matter of seconds.

New Base Equipment

Forming vanes, previously offered as an optional Wide Swath Kit attachment, are now base equipment on Mower Conditioners from three to four meters wide. This increases their ability to spread crop up to 25% wider than a similar machine without vanes.

Various Conditioning Options

Customers can choose from four conditioning options to match the crop being harvested: the impeller, an economical solution for cutting grasses and grass/legume mixes; a urethane roll conditioner for cutting thick-stemmed grasses and leafy crops; or steel V-10 or Tri-Lobe roll conditioners for additional durability.

New Drawbar Swivel Hitch

The new drawbar swivel hitch provides improved maneuverability and ease of transport, compared to the standard clevis and equal angle hitches.
