The landscaping industry can be difficult to break into, as Derek Taussig of Taussig Landscape knows. However, with a bit of ingenuity and research, he was able to find his way to Prairieland Partners, who helped him build his company from the ground up. Since then, he has been utilizing John Deere machinery to drive his business and deliver optimal results to his clients.

Starting Out in the Landscaping Industry

Derek Taussig grew up in Manhattan, Kansas, and his love for the community has only grown over the years. “I started my business in 2011, business entrepreneur major at K State,” he explains. “The next year, I really came into some really big jobs and was doing really well. I decided that I didn’t need to go to college anymore. I found two really good key players that helped me scale.”

By 2014-15, Taussig’s small landscaping company had doubled, along with his team. It was then that he knew it was time to start looking into other options in terms of machinery to get the job done as Taussig Landscape continued to grow.

Establishing New Relationships

“[I had] been long-time loyal to a different brand,” Taussig explained. “But the service that I was getting behind wasn’t the greatest.” This is when Taussig decided to call Tim with Prairieland Partners, and the rest was history. “I knew he was going to give me the support behind it, so I said ‘Let’s do it,’” Taussig says. “We haven’t looked back yet.”

Bringing in Deere Machinery

Taussig initially brought in Deere machinery because he needed to be more competitive in the landscaping industry, specifically when it came to building limestone walls. “I knew that the John Deere 35 could handle the stone that we were using,” Taussig explains. “With the thumb attachment, we were able to grab blocks and stack walls faster than we ever were before.”

The John Deere 35G mini excavator ultimately changed the way Taussig did business. Now, he can tackle everything from patio excavation to planting trees. He says that employee morale at his business has improved, as workers are not as frustrated by the tasks at hand. “It really just gets jobs done fast and efficient,” Taussig says. “The guys just love running it, and I will never not have one again.”
